Los quistes tienen menos de 10% de agua, pero son muy higrosc\u00f3picos. Su metabolismo es nulo, pero contienen embriones viables; al hidratarse, se reinicia el desarrollo de los embriones.<\/p><p>Patrick describe como la membrana cuticular externa funciona como filtro molecular. Como resultado, la trehalosa se convierte en glic\u00f3geno y glicerol que se acumulan en los quistes. A mayor producci\u00f3n de glicerol, m\u00e1s agua es absorbida, produciendo un aumento de presi\u00f3n. Esto induce la descomposici\u00f3n del cori\u00f3n y la liberaci\u00f3n del embri\u00f3n a la fase umbrella. La continuaci\u00f3n de la incubaci\u00f3n permitir\u00e1 al embri\u00f3n seguir su desarrollo para ser un nauplio de nado libre. Luego este mudar\u00e1 a la fase Instar I, y luego a la fase Instar II. Todo esto puede ocurrir en menos de 24 horas\".<\/em><\/p><p>Patrick agrega que en la fase Instar II, la Artemia tiene una boca y sistema digestivo funcionales. <em>\"La sincron\u00eda de la eclosi\u00f3n puede ser muy distinta entre un lote y cepa y otra. Los productos con un similar potencial de eficiencia en su eclosi\u00f3n (n\u00famero de nauplios por gramo de producto) tambi\u00e9n pueden diferir. Esto ocurre porque pueden tener una diferente velocidad de desarrollo o potencial de eclosi\u00f3n. Esto se puede observar por el hecho de que algunos de los embriones han llegado a la fase Instar I o II, mientras que otros a\u00fan no descomponen el cori\u00f3n y permanecen en la fase umbrella. El consumo anual mundial de Artemia ha aumentado enormemente, desde 1 ton en 1970 hasta aproximadamente 3000 ton. En los inicios los hatcheries usaban alrededor de 25 kg de quistes de Artemia para producir 1 mill\u00f3n de postlarvas de camar\u00f3n, pero hoy est\u00e1n m\u00e1s eficientes y se usan 2 a 5 kg de quistes de Artemia por mill\u00f3n de postlarvas.
